Congenital heart disease affects approximately one out of every one hundred newborns. The Division of Pediatric Cardiology is responsible for the diagnosis of congenital heart defects, performing diagnostic procedures such as echocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, and electrophysiology studies, and for the ongoing management of the sequelae of heart disease in infants, children and adolescents. The division is actively involved in research aimed at preventing both congenital and acquired heart disease in children.
The clinical programs at LPCH are truly comprehensive, and include all facets in the modern pediatric cardiology department, both surgical and medical. The programs have expanded rapidly over the past 5 years, and are well situated now to enter a new phase of growth in the coming years. The physicians of this program are dedicated to excellence in patient care, joined to a commitment to advancing the care of future patients through clinical research. They are supported in their efforts by a talented and committed team that includes cardiology fellows in training, pediatric house officers, advanced practice nurses, social workers, pharmacists and clerical staff.
